Microneedling is an advanced form of dermal restructuring that uses tiny needles to create micro injuries in the skin. These micro injuries stimulate collagen production at the cellular level. This stimulates new cell growth during the wound-healing process, which results in smoother skin texture and more youthful-looking skin. It also helps reduce fine lines and improve the appearance of wrinkles by stimulating the formation of new collagen fibers. The result is visibly improved texture, tone, firmness and elasticity.

Microneedling is safe for all skin types. Because of the microneedling device’s precision, it can be used to treat both big and small areas.

Skin Pen is Cornerstone Dermatology’s chosen microneedling device. Skin Pen is FDA-cleared for the treatment of acne facial scars in adults aged 22 years and older and for the treatment of neck wrinkles.

  • Microneedling creates thousands of microscopic channels in your skin. While doing this, it activates the body’s natural healing response to remodel the skin and keep the overall structure of the skin intact.

    Over time, these micro injuries heal naturally, creating new collagen and improving the overall texture, tone, firmness and elasticity of your skin.

  • Prior to your treatment, your provider will provide a numbing cream to keep you more comfortable during your treatment. This typically takes 20-30 minutes to take effect, depending on the treatment area.

    Your provider will perform your procedure in a minimally-invasive and precise manner with the use of a sterile needle head. The procedure is normally completed in 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the required procedure and anatomical site.

    After your treatment, your skin may appear slightly pink to red, similar to a mild to a moderate sunburn. You may also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity following the procedure. Within the next 24 hours, the skin will often appear to have returned to normal. After three days, there is rarely evidence that the procedure has taken place.

  • You should see noticeable improvements within three weeks of treatment. However, most people notice significant changes between four and six months.

  • We’ll apply numbing medication 20 to 30 minutes prior to your treatment to help make it a comfortable experience. You’ll feel a slight pinching sensation as the device passes over your skin, however this sensation quickly diminishes following each pass.

  • Micro-needling can be used to improve the appearance of the face, neck and décolleté.

  • We recommend spacing your micro-needling treatments four weeks apart.

  • Micro-needling is not approved for patients under 22 years of age or for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Accutane patients should wait six months following the completion of their treatment to begin microneedling.
