KC Mavericks Announce Dr. David Fieleke as Team Dermatologist

[Lee’s Summit, MO, 10/11/2018] – Cornerstone Dermatology & Surgery Group is excited to announce Dr. David Fieleke has been named as the official team dermatologist for the Kansas City Mavericks ice hockey team for the 2018-2019 season, opening October 12, 2018. In his partnership with the team, Dr. Fieleke will use his knowledge of both general and sports dermatology to expertly treat Mavericks players.

“Competitive athlete’s skin is regularly subjected to physical and environmental stress beyond what the average person experiences, and these stressors can challenge its protective function,” Dr. Fieleke says. “Early diagnosis and effective treatment of skin problems is key, so athletes can get back in the game.”

Dr. Fieleke grew up in the Kansas City area cheering on hometown sports teams. He earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri in 2007. He remained in Columbia to complete his dermatology residency. After moving back to the Kansas City area, he completed a skin cancer surgery fellowship from 2013 to 2014.

He plans to provide Mavericks players not only with expert and efficient care for their acute skin health needs that arise throughout the season but also with access to comprehensive skin cancer exams, should they desire.

The Kansas City Mavericks, owned by Lamar Hunt, Jr., are entering their 10th year as Kansas City’s professional hockey team. They play at Silverstein Eye Centers arena on a 72-game schedule that features 36 home dates. Single-game tickets, season tickets and mini packs for the upcoming season are all on sale. Dr. David Fieleke Celebrates Grand Opening of Cornerstone Dermatology in Lee's Summit

[Lee’s Summit, MO, 9/4/2018] – Cornerstone Dermatology & Surgery Group welcomes the community to celebrate its grand opening with a Lee's Summit Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12 at 601 NW O'Brien Road. A reception and open house will follow. Guests will be invited to tour the new office and enjoy food, drinks and skincare product samples.

Dr. David Fieleke is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained skin cancer surgeon, skilled in both general dermatology and the advanced surgical and reconstructive treatment of skin cancer. He and his family made Lee's Summit home in 2011. He appreciates the continued opportunity to care for patients of all ages in his new office location, which opened in July 2018.

“Our mission is to provide expert medical, surgical and aesthetic dermatology care. Our team strives to care for people in ways they wouldn’t expect at a specialty office,” Fieleke says. “That’s the difference you’ll experience here at Cornerstone Dermatology.”

The 3,350 square-foot medical office renovation began in March 2018 and was completed in June 2018. Each clinic room was designed for patients’ comfort during medical consultation and also specially equipped for surgical procedures, including Mohs micrographic surgery.

Mohs micrographic surgery is an advanced treatment for basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma. It is used for higher-risk skin cancers or in areas where there is not as much surrounding skin or tissue, such as the face, ears, scalp and hands. Following his dermatology training, Dr. Fieleke completed a Mohs surgery fellowship during which he received extensive training in surgical and reconstructive techniques. He has since completed over 5,000 Mohs surgeries.

“Mohs surgery allows us to treat skin cancer with the highest cure rate while also keeping the resulting wound as small as possible,” Fieleke says. “During surgery, we process the tissue in our on-site lab while patients wait, giving them the confidence that they are skin cancer-free when they walk out the door.”

Dr. David Fieleke Offers Free AAD Skin Cancer Screening at Carnegie Village

[Lee’s Summit, MO, 7/23/2018] – David Fieleke, MD, board-certified dermatologist and skin cancer surgeon with Cornerstone Dermatology & Surgery Group in Lee’s Summit, will hold a free American Academy of Dermatology SPOTmeTM skin cancer screening from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday August 4 in the meeting room at Carnegie Village.

“Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer and everyone is at risk, even those with darker skin types,” says David Fieleke, MD. “While skin cancer is highly treatable when caught early, it can be deadly. That’s why free screenings like this one are so important.”

No appointment is necessary. Screenings will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis during specified hours. The screening is intended to check one or two areas of concern. A clinic appointment should be made for more extensive examinations or to discuss other skin concerns.

"Unlike other cancers, skin cancer can be detected by a dermatologist during a visual exam of your skin,” says Dr. Fieleke. “A skin cancer screening only takes a few minutes and it could save your life.”

SPOTmeTM is the free skin cancer screening program of the American Academy of Dermatology. Since 1985, Academy dermatologists have conducted more than 2.4 million free skin cancer screenings and have detected nearly 238,000 suspicious lesions, including more than 26,500 suspected melanomas.
