Dermal Fillers

Cornerstone Dermatology discusses Botox/Neurotoxins and answers the most commonly asked questions about the treatment.

Dermal Fillers

As we age, our bodies begin to lose collagen, a protein that exists all over our bodies including in skin, muscles, bones and connective tissues. Decreased amounts of collagen in your skin causes skin laxity (loose skin) and loss of volume. Skin becomes thinner, loses its elasticity and starts to sag. You may choose to get dermal fillers to add volume to sagging skin, smooth wrinkles and creases in your face, plump up lips and cheeks and make your facial features more symmetrical.

At Cornerstone, we offer the RHA Collection of hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers. HA is a naturally-occurring acid in your skin, which gives it volume and keeps it hydrated. RHA fillers treat dynamic folds and wrinkles and adapt to your facial movements, providing a more natural look at rest and in motion. These fillers are approved for the correction of dynamic facial wrinkles and folds that are moderate-to-severe, such as nasolabial folds, in adults 22 or older. Results are immediate and long-lasting - typically 12 months but up to 15 months.

Board-certified nurse practitioner Kate Parks possesses more than 14 years of experience in the field of dermatology, with more than 10 years expertise in enhancing patient’s natural beauty through dermal fillers. During a filler consultation, Kate will evaluate your facial anatomy and provide recommendations and treatment to help you achieve your aesthetic goals.

  • Fillers are used to treat volume loss, folds and wrinkles of the face that come with the natural aging process. Commonly treated areas include cheeks, lips, nasolabial folds, down-turned corners of the mouth, and smile lines. Volume can be added to contour and augment the cheeks, lips and the chin area.

  • Fine needles are used for a series of precise injections, and an ice pack may be applied during treatment to reduce swelling and bruising. Depending on the treatment area and extent of the treatment, your filler treatment will take 15 to 30 minutes.

  • Results are immediate and long-lasting, with proven clinical effectiveness and duration of up to 15 months.

  • Filler treatment cost is customized based on your personal appearance and goals as well as the filler type and their location. On average, many patients need 1-4 syringes depending on treatment location. An aesthetic consultation is $100, and this reservation fee is good towards the cost of your treatment on the same day.

  • Avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil), naproxen (Aleve) or any anti-inflammatory medication, St. John’s Wort, Ginger, Garlic, Ginkgo Biloba, high doses of Vitamin E, or Omega-3 fatty acids for 10 days prior to your procedure to decrease your risk of bruising and swelling. You may take Tylenol.

  • Minimize strenuous exercise, exposure to extensive sun or heat, and alcoholic beverages within the first 24 hours following treatment. Patients may use arnica gel and/or supplements to help with reduction of bruising. You may use Tylenol in case of any discomfort. It is best to schedule your procedure at least 2 weeks prior to any major event (weddings, graduation, etc) to allow time for any bruising and swelling to heal.

  • Do not receive fillers if you have a history of multiple severe allergies or severe allergic reactions; if you are allergic to lidocaine or gram-positive bacterial proteins; or if you have a bleeding disorder.

  • Side effects are typically minimal and can include bleeding, bruising, and swelling. You may experience some puffiness and fullness which can last 7 to 14 days.
